Kultunis?

Kultunis?

It's the pet nickname my grandfather had for me when I was about five. It's Lithuanian for that ball of hair you pull off your brush and use to make your bun bigger. At the time, it didn't realize the full impact of the name. I was just thrilled to have a pet name at all. Later I learned that we have a word in everyday American for that: rat. By this time I had an awareness that most things in life have a mixed content and a lot is determined on how you looked at things as to how happy you were going to be.

In naming this site I went through a bunch of names trying to get one accepted and they were all taken until, on a whim I tried my pet name. I'm taking that as an omen.

While kind of disgusting, the idea of kultunis is also interesting, finding utility in discarded bits of the body, bordering on taboo, but again, it's all in the way you look at it. Victorians made incredible jewelery that was worn outside the house! from the hair of deceased loved ones. So this kultunis thing is not that bad, and yet by contemporary standards, yuck, get out the de-liceing stuff and have at it.

As a point of focus from which to spawn opinions, ideas, whims, I thought it could be a pretty good place to start.

Well, I stumbled onto this while supposedly doing on-line research looking for a job so I better get back to that. Oh, and my grandfather, Poppop died last week from Althimers. He was a pistol to the very end of a very long life so, it seemed the thing to do.
